The Cobourg Highland Games is an incredible festival where we celebrate all things Scottish.
The Games are a showcase of the special traditions that make us all just a little bit Scottish. Year after year, people from all over have come to Cobourg to hear the song of the bagpipes, to see how far the caber can be tossed, to see some of the best highland dancing this side of Loch Lomond.
2017 is a special year for every Canadian. As we celebrate our great nation’s 150 years we’re reminded of the tapestry that binds us all together as Canadians.
Each piece of that national tapestry may be a slightly different hue, and it may be made of so many different pieces of fabric. Nevertheless, it is woven of the strongest bonds that, when taken singly, could fray and even become worn. But when bound together, they’re strong, they’re unbreakable, they are Canada.
I want to thank the organizers, who put their hearts and souls into making this event the incredible success it is. I wish the participants every success. I know that they will bring so much skill and talent to the various events and their displays.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I commend all of you for coming today to support this very important event.
