It was my pleasure to be able to bring remarks to the Heroes Highway Ride and Rally in Port Hope on Saturday. Hundreds turned out to pay tribute and gratitude for those brave men and women and their families who have given so much for our country. Below are my remarks from the event.
As motorcyclists, you all have a few things in common. You have a love of the open road, you have a love of independence, you have a love of fellowship.
Today’s event was made possible by the commitment of each and every one of you to honour those men and women and their families who have made one of the deepest commitments to one’s country that can ever be made, military service.
The Highway of Heroes stands as a permanent testament to the unwavering valour of every service person who has ever stood for Canadian values at home and abroad.
Every day, thousands of Canadians traverse the Highway of Heroes. We drive along just like you did today, but when we see the signs…those signs telling us we are now driving on a stretch of road that stands for dignity, pride, sacrifice, how can anyone not be moved?
I want to thank Lou for all his efforts in making this stretch of the 401 be more than a mere fast-moving road, Lou helped make 170 kilometers of this stretch of highway a “sacred designation” to the fallen.
This road takes those who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of every man, woman, and child in this country, it takes them home.
