Northumberland CFDC Invests in Business Attraction in Rural Eastern Ontario
August 8th, 2017
Ontario East Economic Development Commission (OEEDC), will benefit from an investment announced today in Cobourg, Ontario by Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) and Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Northumberland−Peterborough South.
The Northumberland CFDC is pleased to support this economic development initiative with an investment of $100,000 under the Eastern Ontario Development Program’s Collaborative Economic Development Projects (CEDP) stream, with a total project cost of up to $209,800 towards the development and population of a 3D digital archive of Eastern Ontario focused on rural community business attraction and retention. The funding investment will result in 25 new partnerships and collaborations formed within rural Eastern Ontario. OEEDC will work with Carlton University to develop this centralized, interactive and maintenance-friendly platform, allowing business, infrastructure, workforce and market data to come alive in 3D. This will deliver a robust economic planning tool, allowing for the development of strong growth strategies and investments within rural Eastern Ontario communities.
“Today’s funding project will create a cutting-edge 3-D database of key rural economic assets. In conjunction with Carleton University, Ontario East will be developing this archive using the latest in 3-D technologies that will then become a critical tool available for the continued advancement of the “Rural Renaissance” in Eastern Ontario. I want to commend Ontario East for undertaking this important work, as well as the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation for always looking for ways to improve the economic landscape of Eastern Ontario.”
– Kim Rudd, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and MP for Northumberland−Peterborough South
“The launch of a strategic web based infrastructure will cultivate reliable data in bringing strong investment and economic growth within rural communities throughout Eastern Ontario.”
– Wendy Curtis, Executive Director, Northumberland CFDC
